After living in Rexburg for 6 years, I finally hiked "R" mountain on July 3. For those of you who are not familiar with the Rexburg area....there is an extinct volcano here (yes there are volcanoes in this area. Ever hear of Craters of the Moon? That is only about 1-2 hours from here.) Well, someone (I don't know who) marked this mountain with an R for Rexburg (or we like to think RIRIE). Everyone always hiked "R" mountain as part of the BYU-I experience but I have never had the chance. On the 3rd, Mitch, Eric and I went up with our friends the Mechams, JC, Haylee, Kaitlin, and Isaac. It was a really fun day. We saw lots of stink bugs, lizards, and even a rattle snake. We hiked all the way around the crater which was pretty cool. Now I have completed the Rexburg experience. Just in time for Mitch to graduate.
Eric and Dad. Eric loved being in the carrier. He fell asleep about halfway around the crater.
Haylee, Isaac, JC, Katie, Eric, Carrie, and Mitch after our hike.
Mitch and Eric climbing around
At the top of the climb. We think this part was all smooth because it's a wind tunnel and the sand erodes the rock. It was really pretty.
Eastern Idaho really is pretty! If the winters weren't so extreme I might could live here.

I didn't know your husband is still in school. Is he getting his masters? We both just stopped at bachelor degrees. We decided that was enough for us. : ) I've been to Craters of the Moon a couple times but I'm not sure if I ever hiked R Mountain. Looks like fun!
that's awesome! I'm glad you guys are still living it up there. Looks like a blast, sucks we couldn't have been with you!
Wow, pretty cool hiking and what a view!
Wow, great pictures. It looks like a fun hike, I can't remember if I ever hiked it or not.
