So last night at 2:15 am Eric woke up. This is sometimes a common thing but last week he was sleeping 11-5. Well, this morning I thought, "He's way over 11 lbs, he should be able to sleep through the night." I have one stubborn kid! I tried putting in a binkie, letting him cry, rocking him, singing to him, etc. He would have absolutely none of it. So, after 10 minutes of trying I finally caved. Any ideas on getting a kid to sleep through the night? I am taking suggestions. We are starting cereal this week so hopefully when he starts eating more. Who knows. It's a good thing he's so darn cute! Especially when he sleeps.
To my Rexburgian friends: Does anyone want to do a workout swap? I need someone to watch Eric while I go to the gym. In return I want to watch your kid while you go. Any takers? Let me know.

Wow, cereal? My pediatrician told me not to start Paxton until at LEAST 5 months old. But I guess every baby is different and doctors can be different too. As for the sleeping thing, my baby didn't sleep through the night until right before he hit 5 months. I don't know if I can tell you much, but what I didn't realize is that babies will wake up out of habit. One night I just decided that I wouldn't feed Paxton, so I put his binky in and he went back to sleep for another 4-5 hours. The next night or the night after he slept through the night. Something to remember is that it's not going to happen after one night though. They say it usually takes at least 3 nights of persistence before they get it. Also, I have a strong testimony of bedtime routines! Here's ours: bath, brush teeth/gums, lotion/pajamas, story, prayer, bed. It's about a half hour routine and ever since we started bathing every night he's been sleeping a lot better. Hope this helps a little. Good luck!
Good luck. Caleb still wakes up at night though not often. He didn't consistently sleep through the night till around 9 months. He is a stinker. So, I guess I am not one for advice on that. Just try a few things and find what works for you and him. Be sure and give it a few days though... he could jusy be testing you.
I have been blessed with a great little sleeper, I don't know that it is anything we have done. However bed time routine is amazing. She knows exactly what to do once everything has happened. For example last night she was a bit fussy but as soon as she heard the shower running (how I warm up the bathroom before she gets in the tub) she calmed down - this has happened several times. Jane's routine goes: bath, lotion, pjs, eat - have gas drops - finish eating, swaddled, white noise turned on - sleep. It's worked like a charm for her. I am also a HUGE believer in swaddling. I tried to get her to nap w/o being swaddled to save that for bed time, it was a no go. As soon as i started swaddling her for her naps, she was able to sleep. Every kid is different, I have found for myself and from others that consistency and routine is the best thing though. I hope this helps... besides it all he is a cute lil' thing!!
I am with the others, babies are not consistent night sleepers until they are older but I have heard routine helps also. Annette always did that and she swears by it. Also It may be a growth spurt, they eat a lot then they sleep a lot. he may be in the eating stage.
Glad I am done with that!
Oh my goodness! I want to do a workout swap! Just let me know...Hey I hope you don't mind that I added you as a friend on my blog.
Taylor has slept through the night since he was 2 months old. Secret: a full bottle at bedtime and one really tuckered-out baby! (I made him skip afternoon naps for 3-4 days so he'd be exhausted at bedtime. He was stinkin' MAD for those three days, but that's ALL time time it took to teach him how! Every baby is different, though, so do what feels best to you. Good luck, Carrie!
I did the whole schedule thing and it seemed to work well. I think Autumn has some good ideas for getting a baby to sleep through the night. I started my kids on cereal early, in fact Jordan was eating cheerios before he was 5 months old. Do whatever you think is best.
I need to work out BAAD but who wants to watch 2 whiney kids? no one... if you are up for it, I'm in! but Merla especially can be fussy since she's never really had a babysitter... and she doesn't sleep through the night, either, jsut so you know. Shazer was like 8 months before I tried to train him, she's a little more honry (sp?).
